We have all seen the trend of charcuterie boards all over social media! It is a great way to spice up your appetizer game. Charcuterie boards have evolved into more than just meat, crackers and cheese. People have put their own unique twist and creativity on this snack. There have been dip boards, butter boards, candy boards and more! But have you heard of a produce charcuterie board? Using your favourite produce, the contents of your board is up to you!
Here are some ideas to help start your charcuterie board:
Fruits and Vegetables
Add raw vegetables sliced into bite sized pieces. Good vegetables to use can be carrots, celery, cucumber, and peppers (but the choice is yours)! Some thinly sliced pickled vegetables such as onions, olives and pickles pair great with cheese and add a tangy kick.
Cherry tomatoes, sliced avocados, berries, orange slices, grapes, sliced apples, and pears are amazing options for the board.
Optional: add some fresh herbs as a decorative touch! Dill, rosemary, and thyme work great.
Jams/Spreads/Dips
I recommend using at least three different jams/spread/dips to add a variety of flavours to pair with your delicious produce! Some great options are: tomato jam, red pepper jam, blackberry jam, apple jam, onion spread, mango jam, hummus and whole grain mustard.
Tip: Use your extra “peculiar” produce to make some homemade jam!
Crackers/Cheese/Meat
The foundation of all charcuterie boards are the crackers, cheese, and meats! I recommend using three different breads/crackers to add texture. Some options can be baguette, wholewheat crackers, salted crackers, herb crackers, etc…
Cheese is all up to personal taste! Some classics are brie, cheddar, mozzarella gouda, etc..
If you want a vegetarian board, skip this step! For meat, some classics are salami, chorizo, prosciutto, seranno ham, etc…
The best thing about charcuterie boards is that the creativity is endless! Have some fun with it and your guests are guaranteed to love it.
