The holiday season is officially upon us! Friends and families are beginning to gear up for the busy upcoming holidays, which also means organizations such as shelters, food banks, and charities' needs are higher than ever. It’s an important time to spread the spirit of giving by looking out for those in need.

Food Banks Canada

Food banks Canada are bracing for more visits amid severe cost-of-living increases, supporting local food banks in your community is a great way to spread the spirit of giving this season.  At your next holiday gathering with friends, family or coworkers, consider asking them to bring a donation for your local food bank. See what items are needed most and find a food bank in your community where you can drop off the donations. Find the locations and schedules of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank here.

Covenant House Vancouver

Covenant House Vancouver supports youth experiencing homelessness. They are currently accepting donations to help fill a backpack for youth ages 16 – 24, food donations, clothes donation, vehicle donations and aeroplan point donations. To find out more ways to get involved, click here.

The Dugout

The Dugout is a nondenominational charitable organization serving residents of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Their vision is to have a safe and welcoming place where people who are homeless or nearly homeless in the Downtown Eastside can come together to build relationships to counter the effects of isolation and loneliness. Programs they provide include, “Safe Space,” “First Hot Meal of the Day,” “Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings,” and “Evening Programs.” To find out how you can get involved, click here

Volunteer

At such a busy time of year, organizations have their hands full. Trying to arrange a volunteer event is a great way to spend time with your friends and family while giving back to your community. This can be at clothing drives, food drives, charities and many more!
