As we ring in the New Year, many are looking for ways to live healthily. In this blog post, we will discuss ways that you can improve your overall health in 2023!
1. Eat nourishing food
Consume a variety of foods from all food groups to get a range of nutrients to provide energy throughout the day. A balanced diet of whole foods such as fruits and vegetables, lean protein, low-fat dairy and whole grains is needed.
Opt for fresh fruits and vegetables, especially nutrient-dense dark, leafy greens and broccoli. There's no easier and better way to get produce than a weekly (or biweekly/monthly) Peko box!
2. Exercise regularly
Contrary to popular belief, exercising will add to your energy account and not subtract from it. Working out for at least 30 minutes every day relieves stress and tension, strengthens muscles and boosts endurance, and helps your body work more efficiently during other physical tasks or activities.
3. Drink water
Maintain the balance of fluids in your body by drinking six to eight glasses of water a day. Buy a nice water bottle and remember to carry it with you when on the go. Swap sugary drinks for water, fresh vegetable juice, or green smoothies.
4. Get enough sleep
Prioritizing sleep is one of the best ways to set yourself up for an energized day. Craft a pre-bedtime routine to unwind, stick to a sleep schedule, and aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep. Sleep deprivation can perpetuate serious health conditions, as well as negatively affect your mood, motivation and energy levels.
5. Manage stress levels
Recognize the signs of stress and manage them in healthy ways. Yoga, meditation, exercise, and journaling can help reduce stress levels. Talk to your doctor if you are having difficulty managing your stress levels.
6. Keep good company
Maximize the amount of time that you spend with people you enjoy being around. Maintaining a compassionate mindset is another way to conserve energy. Finally, set limits and boundaries to protect yourself and conserve your energy when around people who do not refill your energy reserves.
7. Control alcohol consumption
It’s no secret that drinking alcohol is bad for your health. Consider Dry January as an opportunity to reflect on drinking habits and redefine your relationship with alcohol.
8. Do something meaningful
Do something you enjoy every day, even if it's a simple act like cooking a healthy meal or listening to your favourite song. Putting effort into the things that matter most to you will help bring out the best in you.
9. Stay up-to-date on health screenings
Regular check-ups and screenings can help you stay on top of any potential illnesses or diseases that may be lurking. Don't ignore signs of pain or push through discomfort.
10. Be more present
Make sure to take regular breaks from screens and get up and move around throughout the day. Go for a walk in nature, do some stretching exercises, or just stand up and move around.
Starting a healthier life can be overwhelming so it's best to focus on two things to start. What are your priorities this year? Let us know!
