Wait! Don’t throw away your food scraps just yet. Finding use for your food scraps instead of tossing them out is a great way to minimize your environmental impact. Using every last bit of food doesn’t only help the environment, but can make cooking more fun and creative.

Make Croutons Using Stale Bread: Have some bread that has gone stale? Instead of throwing it away, make some delicious crispy croutons you can throw on top of any salad to add some crunch.

Vegetable Broth: No need to buy vegetable broth at the store anymore. Simply add your vegetable scraps into a large pot filled with water and let it simmer. The perfect base for any soup!

Fruit Scrap Vinegar: Fruit scraps such as apples, pears, or pineapples will work for this delicious sweet vinegar. Fill a jar with your food scraps, add a spoonful of sugar and cover with water. Secure with a lid and stir daily. The fruit will transform the water into a vinegary treat!

Natural Air Freshener: Use your citrus peels as a natural air freshener as they absorb odors. You can also add your favourite essential oils and spices to the peels.

More Tea: Use your tea bags more than once! Save a few used tea bugs and use them for the second time all together. You will have a tea that is strong enough to brew.
