How do I pronounce "Peko"?
Don't worry, many others are in the same boat as you! Our brand name is pronounced as "peck-ko".
Fun fact: in Japanese, "peko" is the sound an empty stomach makes. Feeling peckish? Get Peko. 😉
What Is "Peculiar" Produce?
Our produce falls into two categories:
1) "Peculiar" looking: They're discoloured, misshapen, or have suffered some minor bruising and/or damage. Among farmers, they're often known as "seconds", or "B-grade". Some might have shorter shelf-life than first-grade ones, meaning that they're a little overripe.
2) Surplus: Sometimes, farmers and wholesalers just have too much supply, more than what grocers want! While these are often first-grade produce, they never make it into traditional grocers.
For these reasons, much of our perfectly edible produce was destined for the landfill. That's where you and Peko come in!
NOTE: due to the nature of B-grade perishables, a lot can change due to environmental reasons. Please note this might mean that you would need to consume some produce sooner than later, and chop off certain spots that you deem unfit.

- If you subscribe between June 3 (Thursday) or after:
- Your card will be charged on June 10 (the next Thursday), and delivered on June 13 (the next Sunday).
- The next time it'll be automatically charged is on June 24 (Thursday), and the next order will arrive on June 27 (Sunday).

What's in a Peko Produce bag?
Peko Produce can be best described as a mystery box. This option includes 10-12+ lbs of REGULAR & ORGANIC "peculiar" fruit and vegetables that are in season and showcased on our website.
Is your selection organic?
We offer both REGULAR and CERTIFIED ORGANIC selections. This way, we can rescue as much food waste as possible and cater to your preferences.
How do I know what's in my bag?
As a mystery bag service, we don't reveal our selections until 1-2 days before the delivery date.
We usually publish our selections on our social media pages every Saturday. If you've placed an order, we will send you an email/text every Saturday with more details about what's in your bag also!
How do payments work?
We handle all transactions through PayPal. All customers are able to use their credit/debit cards via the PayPal checkout system. All tips go to our drivers. We will never charge payments without your direct authorization via our checkout system. We do not have access to your card information after you make a purchase.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, because we'd hate to miss this! We will try our best to accommodate to your request. Please note that since we are a mystery bag service, this might mean that your variety will be more limited than what we intended.
Where do you source your produce?
Great question! We source from local farmers, as well as local wholesalers who have already imported produce from outside Canada.
This way, we can support local farmers, provide seasonal variety, and rescue as much food waste as possible! For inquiries on where we supply from, feel free to send us an email.
We are working to continue expanding our list of partners, providing you with more variety and consistent supply! If you are a supplier and are interested in partnering with us, please email us at email@example.com.
What do you do with excess food?
Thanks to our pre-ordering system, we rarely have much excess food. However, if there are extras, our team gift them to our delivery drivers, packers, or donate them to a local non-profit - Local Open Access Fridge (LOAF).
If you have extras or simply dislike certain produce, we highly encourage you to donate to LOAF, or any local food bank! You'll be giving them to those in need, all while reducing food waste, and we LOVE to see that.
How does packaging work?
We strive to minimize wastage, so our packaging is recyclable. Your order will come in recyclable box, with reusable ice packs inside to keep the produce cold and fresh. We've proudly partner with UBC Green Labs to reuse non-toxic gel packs and keep your produce as fresh as possible!
While we don't actively use non-recyclable packaging, we can't do much about what our suppliers choose to use. That's why sometimes you might find some items already packaged in plastic bags, or some soft produce coming with a plastic container.
What do I do with the gel packs?
You're more than welcome to keep it for your personal use. Otherwise, we have a fun tip: you can cut the gel packs open and use the content for house plants! The high water content will keep your plants extra hydrated.
How can I reach the Peko team?
Any questions or inquiries can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org. You can expect a response within 24 hours on weekdays, and 48 hours on weekends and holidays. Thanks for your patience with our small team of two!
