How do I pronounce "Peko"?
Don't worry, many others are in the same boat as you! Our brand name is pronounced as "peck-ko".
Fun fact: in Japanese, "peko" is the sound an empty stomach makes. Feeling peckish? Get Peko. 😉
Why did we start Peko Produce?
In Canada alone, $3.1 billion worth of produce is rejected every year for purely cosmetic reasons. Meanwhile, living costs are rising every day, and organic food isn't exactly the cheapest thing in the grocery store!
Our #1 mission is to reduce food waste and promote accessibility to healthier diets. Peko believes in a world with no food waste where everyone can afford to eat healthy.
Moreover, we strongly believe that consumers can (and should) vote with their dollars to create a better food system for all!
What is "peculiar" produce?
Our produce falls into two categories:
1) "Peculiar" looking: They're discoloured, misshapen, a little overripe, or have suffered some minor bruising and/or damage. Among farmers, they're often known as "seconds" or "thirds", and some might be slightly less fresh than the "firsts". However, much of our produce is harvested from the ground less than 2 days before delivery! Please note this might mean that you would need to consume some produce sooner than later, and chop off certain spots that you deem unfit.
2) Surplus: Sometimes, farmers and wholesalers just have too much supply, more than what grocers want! While these are often first-grade produce, they never make it into traditional grocers.
For these reasons, much of our perfectly edible produce was destined for the landfill. That's where you and Peko come in!
How does ordering work?
Peko offers one-time payment, weekly or bi-weekly subscriptions. To subscribe, please click HERE and select your desired option. Please note that if you place an order on our Homepage, you'd only be able to place a one-time order.

- If you subscribe between June 3 (Thursday) or after:
- Your card will be charged on June 10 (the next Thursday), and delivered on June 13 (the next Sunday).

What's in a Peko Produce bag?
Peko Produce can be best described as a mystery box. This option includes 8-10lbs of REGULAR or ORGANIC "peculiar" fruit and vegetables that are in season and showcased on our website.
While you can specify your preferences/dietary restrictions by emailing us or by making a note in the "Delivery Notes" section, we can't always guarantee to match them due to supply fluctuations. We'll always try our best, though! ☺
Is your selection organic?
We offer both REGULAR and CERTIFIED ORGANIC selections. This way, we can rescue as much food waste as possible and cater to your preferences.
How do I know what's in my bag?
As a mystery bag service, we don't reveal our selections until 1-2 days before the delivery date.
We usually publish our selections on our social media pages every Saturday. If you've placed an order, we will send you an email/text every Saturday with more details about what's in your bag also!
What if I have dietary restrictions?
Please email us at email@example.com, because we'd hate to miss this! We will try our best to accommodate to your request. Please note that since we are a mystery bag service, this might mean that your variety will be more limited than what we intended.
Where do you source your produce?
Great question! We source from local farmers, as well as local wholesalers who have already imported produce from outside Canada.
This way, we can support local farmers, provide seasonal variety, and rescue as much food waste as possible! For inquiries on where we supply from, feel free to send us an email.
We are working to continue expanding our list of partners, providing you with more variety and consistent supply! If you are a supplier and are interested in partnering with us, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What do you do with excess food?
Thanks to our pre-ordering system, we rarely have much excess food. However, if there are extras, our team gift them to our delivery drivers, packers, or donate them to a local non-profit - Local Open Access Fridge (LOAF).
If you have extras or simply dislike certain produce, we highly encourage you to donate to LOAF, or any local food bank! You'll be giving them to those in need, all while reducing food waste, and we LOVE to see that.
How does packaging work?
We strive to minimize wastage, so our packaging is recyclable. Your order will come in recyclable box, with reusable ice packs inside. We've proudly partner with UBC Green Labs to reuse gel packs and keep your produce as fresh as possible!
Get $1 in Peko's credits every time you place your reusable ice packs outside the door for our drivers to collect during the weekly Sunday deliveries. Help us reduce, reuse and recycle!
Fun fact: If you choose to keep the gel packs, you can cut them open and use the content for house plants! The high water content will keep your plants extra hydrated.
While we don't actively use non-recyclable packaging, we can't do much about what our suppliers choose to use. That's why sometimes you might find some leafy greens/herbs coming in rubber bands, or some soft produce coming with a plastic lid/container.
How does delivery work?
Delivery costs are accounted for in every order; there are no hidden fees. We only deliver on Sundays, one day after we receive our produce to ensure freshness. We aim to deliver all Peko Produce orders before 5PM PT.
Please leave any notes that will assist us with delivery in the "Delivery Notes" section when you make a purchase - we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate your schedule due to the wide geographic region we service.
How do payments work?
We handle all transactions through PayPal. All customers are able to use their credit/debit cards via the PayPal checkout system. All tips go to our drivers. We will never charge payments without your direct authorization via our checkout system. We do not have access to your card information after you make a purchase.
How can I reach the Peko team?
Any questions or inquiries can be directed to email@example.com. You can expect a response within 24 hours on weekdays, and 48 hours on weekends and holidays. Thanks for your patience with our small team of two!
Where do I send my feedback or requests?
